PEEP! A duckling attaches itself to the first thing it sees--a warmhearted young boy--in this charming book about friendship and change. The duckling follows the boy home, and soon the two are inseparable. But the duckling is growing up. And one day...QUACK! A flock of ducks flies by, and the boy realizes with a great pang of sorrow that his friend will have to return to live among its own kind. A heartwarming twist ending adds to the delight. Kevin Luthardt's deceptively simple story features charming, colorful illustrations along with humor, emotion, and limited text to tell a special tale of friendship, change, and the importance of learning to let go of something you love.
This is a charming little story. Few words, but the colorful illustrations add to the story and let children's imaginations fill in the rest.
Adorable New Children's Book for Young Readers

One day, a young boy is walking through the park, whistling a jolly tune, when a baby duck pokes his tiny head through the shell which he has just hatched from. The boy is mesmerized by the young duck, and they soon become great friends, sharing everything with each other. However, fall is quickly approaching, and the young duck has grown up. His voice is no longer a "peep!" but rather a "quack!" And as a flock of his feathered friends fly by, the little duck is forced to make a very hard decision. Staying with his friend, or going with his flock. Luthardt's PEEP! features everything that a very young child will enjoy when reading a book: colorful illustrations, and very easy words which are scattered throughout the pages. Young readers will find themselves able to read the story themselves, as there aren't many words, and children who have not quite begun reading yet will be able to decipher what is going on in the story, for the illustrations are quite self-explanatory. Overall, this is an adorable new children's book that will be greatly enjoyed by all. Erika Sorocco Book Review Columnist for The Community Bugle Newspaper

A simple and sweet story of true friendship. There are very few words but there are lots of possibilities for talking about the story. I think younger children will enjoy the pictures and older children will enjoy discussing the happenings on each page.
