It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a married man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a son and heir... Thus begins Emma Tennant's inspired sequel to Jane Austen's most beloved novel, Pride and Prejudice. With wit and style and genuine insight into character, Pemberley brilliantly delineates the perils and pleasures of a marriage between two people as strong-willed and prickly as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.A year after wedding, Christmas approaches. As happy as she has been living in relative seclusion with Mr. Darcy and his sister Georgiana at their magnificent Derbyshire estate, Pemberley, Elizabeth is sensible that the time has come to invite her mother and sister to visit her. What begins as a small and manageable family party (although any party any includes the regrettable Mrs. Bennet will take considerable managing) soon grows all out of proportion. A gathering including the Bennets, the Bingleys, and Lady Catherine de Bourgh-as affable and condescending as ever-can only mean missteps, gaffes and hurt feelings. When Darcy becomes increasingly distant and Elizabeth falls prey to vicious gossip, the forces of pride and prejudice are at work once again.
I would give the book Pemberley five stars becuase it is a GREAT book. It is very detailed and to give it a 4 would be lying to you. I would recommend this book to someone that likes to read about the older days and romance. (This book has its good times and bad times!)It has quite - a little bit of adventure and some fighting. This book starts out like every other book - mundane (dull), then as things build up - can't say too much, but this book is a must read!!!!!
One of my favorites!

I gave this book a try and really enjoyed it. Its one of my favorite sequels to P & P...and to those writing LONG hateful comments about the book..you might want to consider the fact that you don't like reading at all and go back to your sexed up historical romance novels.

No certainly not, but it is a good book in itself. You cannot expect a Jane Austin novel from someone who is not Jane Austin so therefore GET OVER IT... In my opinion this is a good book and at least I got to see a view of what the Darcy's life may have been like. Granted there are a few children mistakes etc, but it is just a book and I love to read and if you always focus on every indiscrepency in any book you cannot truly enjoy it. When I read I go into the book, into the story, I become the characters, I feel what they feel, and I live what they live. That is the joy of a good book, and that is just what you will get with this book. So, don't expect Jane Austen. Expect yet one more great book.
