Everyone knows someone who's going through the process of trying to conceive a child. For some people this effort is merely a minor struggle, but for others it can mean months, and years, of profound disappointment and heartbreak. There are hundreds of books that give advice on how to get pregnant, but very few on how to cope with such a trying ordeal. Pennies from Heaven offers much-needed comfort, support, and hope in the form of 101 daily meditations. Each entry begins with a quote or idea for the day, followed by a thoughtful discussion. Written by a couple who underwent their own difficulties attempting to conceive (with eventually happy results), Pennies from Heaven offers perspectives for both men and women, and covers issues from the mundane to the more philosophical, and everything that comes between. At once funny, tender, and wise, it provides the kind of solace that most infertility books can't, the kind that comes from the heart.
Meditations or prayers are very helpful for people with the stress of infertility. My website has changed to a blog I change more than weekly. I have this book on the blog because it meant something to me. There are so few people out there who understand. fertileprayers/blogspot.com for a whole heap of links!

There are only three I know of! This is the first I saw, and then I wrote one. See my website where this is also linked, www.fertilityfair.com to learn more. Rice, Charlotte Fairchild Fertile Prayers:Dailly Fertile Prayers
Read out loud to each other and discuss....

One of the "benefits" to infertility is that you really get to work on your marriage and become much closer than couples that have babies easily. One of the things that we have started doing each night right before we go to bed is to read one page from this book out loud--kind of like a little joint prayer/meditation. I never thought my husband would go for something as "touchy-feely" as this, but he has really come to like it. The amazing thing is that each night I pick a page at random--and without fail it is always on a topic that we were struggling with that day!
Pennies from Heaven is a treasure from the human heart.

Pennies from Heaven is as much about marriage as about infertility. Although infertility is the focus of the book, it could be about almost any important issue that forces a couple to take an honest look at themselves, their marriage and their dreams. I felt drawn to the authors' candor and their revelations of struggles I'd experienced in my own marriage. The wife reveals deep feelings of love and friendship, exasperation and rage, dissapointment and isolation. The husband's voice is more guarded, more protective of his private feelings; still he offers real support to men reading this book. They both get very specific when it comes to the mechanics of infertility tests- a "how to" on getting through an emotionally exhausting experience. I appreciated the clarity of the authors' writing. It humbled me, made me cry from a place of sadness and joy, and articulated the complicated emotions that come from loving another person.

This is not a book to read cover to cover. It is is good to read when your feeling down or have lost faith in your infertility treatment. The couple who wrote the book have been there and can help you through.
