Photographing Cades Cove: When and Where to Take Great Photos (Photographing the Smokies)

I have been visiting Cades Cove regularly for 35 years and believe it or not I am still finding new treasures each time I go. Sometimes it is a new flower species, concrete picnic tables in the woods from the 1950's, otters, a bobcat or a waterfall (yes, I said waterfall). Every season has its own unique beauty and discoveries to behold. Every animal species, log structure, valley scene and delicate flower has an untold number of photographic possibilities. Even the changing light from dawn through dust offers ever-changing opportunities to behold and capture remarkable images. Clouds, too, can instill either an ominous or peaceful feeling to your pictures. And whether leaves are green, gold, red or brown, each color helps tell the story of life, death and rebirth in the Cades Cove valley and mountainsides. This book is not a technical how-to book nor is it a journal of historical facts, but instead is intended to help you see what I see as we explore the 11-mile loop and beyond. So, whether you are capturing the moment with a point-and-shoot camera, cell phone, iPad or DSLR, this book is for you. Hopefully it will encourage you to compose images from a new perspective, stop at a few more locations, get outside of your car and walk a little more, and take away photos that you'll treasure for many years to come.
