I was looking for a good "first words" type book for my daughter, something with a lot of pictures but not too confusing. A lot of books get into too much detail for someone her age, like showing 6 different breeds of monkey - at this point she just needs to know a monkey is a monkey, later she can learn chimp, ape, gorilla, etc... This book keeps it simple for the young ones, but also has little quizzes for when they are older... she adores the book, always brings it to me to look through with her. I like that it covers so many things, from animals, items around the house, nature, plants, food, etc.
My son wouldn't put this book down

I had to "read" this book to my son all day long (I thought he was going to wear out his pointer finger) until he broke the binding. So I am buying a new copy.

As a former elementary teacher and now a new mom, I recommend this book to everyone who has children. It is a great first word book and the pictures are photographs of everyday things and not drawings. It is very helpful with recognition and learning new words.It would make a great gift for a child's first birthday! It is my daughter's favorite book to grab!
