Because their house is too small for a pet in addition to their large family, Poppy Flower trains her newly-found cat to be an "outdoors cat." This description may be from another edition of this product.
I read this over and over again when I was 9 & had the chickenpox. I never tired of this story. I was the oldest of many kids & could identify with Poppy's annoyance with younger siblings... I loved the tale of Poppy & her outdoors cat, Rosebud. I am sort of annoyed that it is OOP... I'd love to be able to read this to my daughters, who are also cat lovers.
One Of My Favorite Childhood Stories!

Poppy is a little girl who wants more than anything to have a pet. Unfortunately, she has six brothers and sisters, and her parents say absolutely "no way." However, as luck would have it, Poppy manages to get a cat of her very own, one who lives outside her apartment building. But when Poppy moves out of the neighborhood, will her new cat be able to come along? This is a very sweet story that should appeal to children in large families or who desperately want pets, as I did when I was a child. Poppy learns responsibility through her new pet and also learns that some things in life we cannot have, no matter how much we want them. Sometimes though, something even better comes along!
