Nearly four thousand years ago, ten-year-old Cassandra is standing outside the house she shares with her mother near the harbour town of Amnisos when a volcanic eruption on the nearby island of Thera creates a tsunami, fifty feet high, hurtling towards the coast of Crete.
Everyone knew Poseidon had to be behind this disaster. Gods were always wrecking things when humans did something to make them angry. But why does he rescue Cassandra from the wave and not her mother? And why does his winged messenger dump her down in Athens, which was ruled at that time by the bloodthirsty Mycenaeans?
Life in Athens doesn't suit Cassandra one bit. She must find a way of escaping across the sea to Amnisos, hoping against hope that her mother is still alive. But the Mycenaeans are not going to let such a valuable prize as Poseidon's granddaughter escape so easily.
