* Provides easy to follow, step-by-step procedures for every phase of power supply design * Written so that any technician, electronics engineer, or knowledgeable hobbyist can follow the material * Trains the technician or engineer, regardless of their discipline, to complete a complicated power supply design in less than one day The Power Supply Cookbook is organized in such a way as to permit any electronic-knowledgeable person to design a complicated power supply to fit his or her needs in less than 8 hours. It covers every phase of design from magnetics design and feedback loop compensation design to RFI/EMI control. In addition, this practical reference provides common industry design approaches with explanations for ease of implementation. No other book discusses the noise and layout issues involved in a design and them weaves its importance into practical design examples. - Documentation (review copy for), December 1994
This is an important book to every one who needs real informations about bulding SMPS, also it includes REAL circuits so you can make. PCB LAYOUT is also there.
Need a good Power Supply Cookbook

Hi Marty, I am designing a guitar pedal and I don't want to employ any noisy switching power supply. I want three regulated voltages: +5, -5 and 9 V (to replace a battery that degrades), with about 500 ma per output. And I want to use a 12/24 DC wall-plug adapter. I want crowbar and OV protection, very low noise (micro volt range), and great regulation (0.1% or better). After searching your book (looks very good), I will buy it regardless of reviews with 1, 2, or 3 stars (what do those reviewers know). So, what will your next revision contain? Regards, John
Power Supply Cookbook

I am Marty Brown - the author. I am about to write the next revision. Comment: I had written my books because the books on the market then and now do not reflect the real-world needs of the designer on the bench, (where to start, what is important, how to tackle the more complicated aspects of the design and hardware, etc). Simulation is a good thing, but not all parasitics are included. Without the real world considerations, the final product may still fail. I need your inputs. The book is getting dated and I would like to incoporate some of the latest needs of readers/designers. I have always been an engineer that had sought an intuitive understanding of what I had designed and I hope to continue that through my writing. Please email any comments to my email address [email protected]. Questions are also welcomed and I hope I can answer them all. Also, any mistakes you may have found in the "Cookbook" or subject recommendations, please let me know. Thank you for reading the book and good luck to all of you.
A must for novice SMPS designer

This is an exelent book, if somebody purchased this book and wrote that this book has equations but they are not explained, is because the title say it all:"cookbook". It is practical and a good reference at least for the novice, but remember, this is not a book for somebody that do not understand the meaning on poles an zeros, neither for the one do not know how to bias a bjt. There is not in the market yet a book that tell you how design a buck or boost converter step-by-step, since choose resistor up to choose the control method and op amp. One have to search and buy many books and then develop your oun skills in converters. It is not expensive, so buy it and you won't be betrayed.
Good level of detail.

This book has a good level of detail overall. Brown's use of design examples give the reader enough meat to be of use in actual design situations. Also has a good section on thermal analysis/design and feedback loop compensation.
