Pray for Dawn: The Fourth Dark Days Novel (Dark Days Series, 4)

In this book the viewpoint changes and readers find out Danaus's thoughts. I won't go into details on the plot because others already have. Know that it is not a retelling of a previous book in this series, it is an entirely new book. I really enjoyed this new addition to the series. Other reviews stated that Danaus was in self-denial or backtracking, however I believe you get to see how *conflicted* Danaus is and the changes he is going through on how he views Nightwalkers. I don't usually enjoy books from a man's point of view, but I really enjoyed this one. Most readers will have already read the first three books, and so will be very familiar with Mira, Danaus and the other characters and, I think, enjoy this new viewpoint.

I'm not sure why so many people didn't like this one. It may not have been as action packed as the previous ones, but I still loved it nonetheless. I loved the fact that it was told by Danaus this time. Getting an idea of not only what he has running through his head but also a peak into his past was great. Sure some of the mystery surrounding him is gone now, but at least we know more about him. I also liked that his real feelings for Mira were exposed. I will say I was a little shocked at how naive the author decided to make him. On more than one occasion I wondered how he survived as long as he had. As far as his "are nightwalkers evil? Well maybe I was wrong" I think that his feelings have merit. After spending more than a few lifetimes learning the wrong information about nightwalkers, I would be second guessing it as well. We also were treated to a little of the assistant James background and a little character development there. Of course there are more questions surrounding the warlock Ryan, which I hope we are treated to answers in further installments. This one may have not been as great as previous books but I was still unable to put the book down. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next one. As much as I loved that Danaus narrated this one, I do hope the next one will be back to Mira.

I love this series. The first 3 books were amazing. This one? Eh. Danaus comes across as whiny and somewhat Emo. Are nightwalkers evil? Are they? What if they're not? What if everything that he knows about them is wrong? But what if it isn't? But what if it is? Let's explore. Plus the story of this book left a lot to be desired. Nothing MAJOR happened. It was just a little bump in the road and the antagonist felt a little convenient. "There needs to be something to draw the story of this book out...filler bad guy." And the end made no sense what so ever. I half expected dramatic music to start playing. My one biggest complaint was the way the characters speak. They all speak the same proper English. Be it a 600 year old vampire, a 1800+ year vampire hunter or an old witch. They all use proper English and long, drawn out phrases. It maybe a minor thing but it gets annoying. I'm sincerely looking forward to book 5 because I do like the characters and the story is intriguing. This book might be the weakest so far, but the series as a whole is awesome.

To have any continuity with the storyline and characters, you'll have to read the first three books before this one. But, never fear. You'll love the ride. This fourth book is written from Danaus' point of view. Initially, it was difficult to accept Danaus as the narrator because I didn't want to get into his head. Nevertheless, Mira dominates the story with her character, her contradictions, her strength, her tenderness and toughness, and her intelligence, even as she spirals into madness. At the foundation of the story is the unfolding of the relationship between these two honorable, solitary souls and how they will overcome the challenges they are faced with. Danaus is burdened with protecting Mira, uncovering the new paranormal threat that has come to Savannah, trying to keep the lid on the supernatural community, solving murders, fighting the naturi, fighting his rapidly growing attraction to Mira, confronting his mortality and divided heritage, and dealing with his lessening belief in the cause he serves. The plot is well written, the action is sensational, and the chemistry between the characters will render you breathless. You will be sucked into a world you won't want to leave. The only consolation you'll have when you finish this book is that the fifth book will be released in only a few more weeks. I can't wait.

Daneus the millennium old vampire Hunter struggles with his feelings for the seven century old Nighwalker vampire Mira. Logically and instinctively she is his natural enemy yet his soul feels taken by her as neither can go for the final kill as she feels the same internal war. Having returned from Spain to investigate the murder of a girl in Mira's turn, Savannah, Daneus is confronted by three werewolves led by Nicolai. The Naturi has returned with the same mission as before to annihilate all races on the earth. The vampires and lycan must unite against a strong common enemy who just killed that girl as a calling card. As Mira is losing her grip on sanity and Daneus fears the Bori who possess half his soul and want the rest as a portal to this plane, the beleaguered pair teams up to try to save the planet without allowing the humans to know they exist or are in peril. The fourth Dark Days urban fantasy (see Dawnbreaker, Dayhunter and Nightwalker) is a fabulous entry as all hell is breaking out in Georgia and elsewhere. Fast-paced throughout, readers will enjoy the switch from Mira's viewpoint in the previous entries to Daneus' perspective as the action never slows down and sets up the next book in Drake's dramatic darkening, Wait For Dusk.
