This is a great book! I use it every year with my students when we get to the word pretzel in our spelling list. We read the book, then make handrolled pretzels. It has 12 facts about pretzels. It's not a "traditional counting book" unless you want to count a dozen facts and teach "There are 12 things in a dozen." The art work is fantastic! The story travels through time from the Middle Ages of Europe to the Pilgrims to Modern America. It also creates an opportunity to read to your children and make pretzels at home together.
Thoroughly enjoyable story and great illustrations.

Written by Angela Elwell Hunt for young readers ages 4 to 8, Pretzels By The Dozen: Truth And Inspiration With A Heart Shaped Twist is a wonderfully presented Christian picturebook all about the history of pretzels. Among its many fascinating anecdotes is the origin of the pretzel - the first pretzel was shaped by a monk, and the pretzel's three holes symbolize the holy Trinity of God. Pretzels By The Dozen combines short stories about pretzels among American colonists, how pretzel bakers once saved Vienna from invasion, and more with an underlying theme about the importance of loving Jesus Christ. Enhanced with beautiful illustrations by Bill Dodge, Pretzels By The Dozen is a thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended book for young readers.
