I used to play make-believe when I was a kid, until my teachers told me to "get real." Now Quicksilver authors Michael O'Brien and Larry Shook are saying that make-believe is the grown-up path to success in today's fast-changing world. Acknowledging that we live by stories, and acknowledging that we createthese stories gives us flexibility to create and choose powerful stories to help us achieve our goals. It's a deceptively subtle shift with profound implications for the way we do business and culture. How we build those stories makes all the difference. Woven throughout Quicksilver is the example of the Wall Street breakdown, and how rigid beliefs about human nature and the banking system led to "the Wall Street Monster." Quicksilver provides specific antidotes to catastrophic thinking - including things as simple as a commitment to curiosity. I work in the sales department of a company with 17 employees, I've already given our president a copy of Quicksilver and I'll be keeping one on my desk. It's an easy read, with insights and action steps that should make work more fun and more effective. Thank you to the authors for sharing their decades of wisdom and experience.
Give Yourself a New Year's Present

This wonderfully readable and practical book offers some breathtaking views of our collective misjudgments, as well as of our collective possibilities. My great hope is that we will wake each other up in time to recognize that no amount of power or money can measure up to the power and potential of the "generative truth" residing in the collective human spirit once it is intent upon achieving the commonwealth. May we have no need for producing more crises!
Works at home, too

A fascinating read, Quicksilver goes way beyond the business world. I found the stories gripping. And I've used the practices in my personal life. "Changing Shoulds to Coulds" itself is a transformation. Also, understanding the "flight or fight" responses to fear helps me be more understanding and compassionate with people who otherwise seem annoying. I wish all our national leaders would read this book and apply its messages. That would end war!
