Based on the dramatic presentation performed by author Nicole Johnson, Raising the Sail portrays the internal struggle of a mother yearning to connect with her teen daughter, yet knowing she must relinquish control. Overwhelmed by fear, Maggie, an "every-mother" character, finds herself desperately navigating unknown waters. But through a storm that rages in her life, Maggie learns to let go of control, raise the sail of her life, and yield to the wind of the Spirit. For those being tossed about by the winds of change -- a difficult time with an angry son, a distant daughter, or an unruly grandchild -- Raising the Sail offers realistic support and encouragement to choose faith over fear. I enjoyed this quick read. I have tendencies to want to control, and reading this book helps me to remember what damage fear and mistrust can do. My favorite line "...my daughter will never tell her friends 'My mom doesn't trust me, and I appreciate that.'" This author has a lot of lines like that that hit home. Especially if you have teenagers, or even want to control your husband, this book can gently remind you how to let go and turn the control and fear over to God.
