James Lowder brings forth a tale of horror & adventure in this, the second novel in the RAVENLOFT fantasy horror setting. By pitting Lord Soth, a strong evil character from the DRAGONLANCE saga, against the vampire lord of a dark domain, Lowder creates a strong tension that receives a resolution befitting the characters' nature. The death knight, Lord Soth is trapped in a netherworld with which he must come to terms. But as he searches for a way out, his obsessions become his doom. Each story in the RAVENLOFT series is complete in itself. KNIGHT OF THE BLACK ROSE is sure to appeal to the Gothic horror aficionado. Lowder also wrote CRUSADE, book three of the Empires Trilogy, set in the FORGOTTEN REALMS world.
I have only read a couple other fantasy horror books but NOTHING like this one. I would have to say that this is a start of a new bookcase for me. If your interested in anything related to D & D, magic, or death (lol) you will absolutely love the Ravenloft series. The story is fantastic, it never slows down. It is seamless and easy to follow. I felt like I acctually knew the charicters by the end of the book(thats how good the charicter development is!). And the way Lowder(the writer) describes all of the spells and the way everyone looks and sometimes just the absolute terror written on someones face... oh man you feel like you're there! well this is a fantastic book with many others before and after it. (if your trying to read the whole serise in order good luck!) I greatly recomend this book to ALL people who are interested in this topic.-§mee

James Lowder has truly out done himself in this book. He has brought to life the Undead Thrice Cursed Knight. If you are a casual Reader that always awaits a define book to read, I would highly recommend this one. It far surpasses any story ever told about Lord Soth.

Lord Soth is utterly ruthless. Strahd is powerful. Together these two tear up Ravenloft. I thought this was good character developement for Soth. In the Dragonlance Saga Soth was a bit tame. But his wrath is unleashed here. The ending is great.

I read this book thinking it will be just good. IT WAS GREAT. Non-stop action, this got me trying to find other books about lord soth, I could not find any. but then for the heck of it I just type in Lord Soth, and I find a book called lord soth, well I am not back in heaven.

Characters so deep you actually grow attached to them the vampire lord Strahd is wickedly diabolique, and Lord Soth the hero(or antihero)is intimidating just by reading about him,one of the best of the Ravenloft series
