The first publication of Raw Talent created an extraordinary flurry of publicity. Jerry Butler appeared on dozens of talk shows, capturing audiences with his intensity and charm. Reviews of the book lauded Butler's honesty and remarked on the double standard that permits explicit violence on film - but not explicit sex. The book sold out four printings; nonetheless, reactions within the adult film industry included heated debate and an unofficial blacklisting of Butler. The former star of X-rated films and winner of many awards, Jerry Butler wrote the book that many warned would "finish him" in the business that had rewarded him with money and fame. But it is characteristic of Butler that these warnings didn't prevent him from producing this devastatingly honest appraisal of the adult film trade - and of himself. For while Butler is frankly critical of an industry that treats actors and actresses like throw-away props, and allows unprotected sex in the age of AIDS, he reserves his most candid commentary for himself. Raw Talent tells the story of Butler's erotic voyage from average child to sex star. The epilogue added to this new edition answers the question: Where will Jerry go from here?
Jerry Butler, the greatest legendary adult male star bar none, really gives the reader informative insight to his life in and out of the adult film industry. Unlike other actors that do an X-rated film or two and are given the title "Porn Star" so generously, Jerry Butler really earned it. His humorous, no holds barred approach makes for an entertaining read.

I bought this book thinking that I want to know all about what went on in the porn industry, however what I got was drawn into this mans life! It really was one of those books where I just couldn't put it down. He goes into good detail of life in his world and of course he is brutally honest about those around him!
Chip on the Shoudler, but you gotta love the guy:-)

Well, what can I say. Being 31 years old, I grew up with this guy. I thought he was intense, uninhibited and added a comical element to the industry. Rent one of his movies and compare him to the other male actors around the same time period and see how boring they were compared to this guy. I will say this is no boring read and it is alot of fun to hear about all the people he worked with. Myself, like alot of other people out in the world have fantasized about what it would be like to work in the porn business, and this book is about as close as you can get without actually doing it. It is insightful to the ways of the porno industry, who is a skunk and who is not. He is very candid about sex and the risk of AIDS in the business and he is right to say those things. However, the feel of the book is that he has an obvious chip on his shoulder and wants to get back at some in the industry with his somewhat vicious commentary. But if it is true, it is true, and if he did it just to sell books that is good too. Either way Paul (aka. Jerry Butler) if you read this review, I liked your book, and I've asked others to buy it and read it. You'll be surprised how fun they think it is.

Jerry Butler's genuine talent and charm are on display in his writing. I too feel a kinship with the author. My father worked at the same Nathan's for 20 years and I spent much time at the Cinema Kings Highway in Brooklyn. Jerry and I could be related. That would be enjoyable--he seems a delight on screen and inprint and would likely be in person.Be assured this book is informative and well written. It excels on two major fronts-- it is also very erotic and very sexual, clearly reflective of its charismatic, talented author.<
Raw Talent is Eponymous

The title says it all! Jerry & ghost writer tell it like it is. Interesting insights into the actresses. Taija Rae is the girl you'd bump into while waiting for the bus. But perhaps the most tragic plot is his marriage to Lisa Loring. I actually got her to sign my copy years after their divorce. Now that's love...sniffle
