Covers all of the steps of the research process for specific disciplines. Develops the skills to evaluate problem and purpose statements critically and analyze the parts of a study to determine the validity of the findings. Discusses the specific statistical procedures used to answer various research questions and/or hypotheses. Examines randomized clinical trials as a methodological 'gold standard' and explains why other types of design are so often necessary in nursing research.
If you have done research in most other fields of study, then much of this book's advice will be familiar and germane. Like analysing existing research efforts and identifying [or trying to at least] the hypotheses of those efforts, especially if these are not explicitly delineated. Issues of sampling methods figure prominently in the book. Here you need some understanding of elementary statistics, and ideas such as purposive sampling and sample adequacy. The book has a concise take on key statistical ideas. Enough for a qualitative understanding. But you really need a more indepth text on statistics if you are actually going to conduct research.
