I've read this book four or five times now - it's easily the best book on the Fire Service I've ever read - and believe me, I've read a LOT of Fire Service books. Not dramatised in any way, the blend of humour, wit, and true-life heroism - and thats NOT exaggerated - sets the perfect scene for the most moving story of the death of a young London fire-fighter and the fire which killed him. The book is uncomplicated although it tells the story of the massive blaze in intricate detail - but is at no point boring in any way. I would recommend this book to anyone - not just those interested in the Fire Service. In fact, those not affiliated with the Fire Service would probably find the story told in this book even more amazing, and would help them better understand the fabulous and extremely courageous role fire-fighers play in protecting us, by choice, every day.
