Retire in Ecuador

"Retire in Ecuador" tells the exciting story of how to live well in retirement whether you chose Ecuador or a number of other low cost yet culturally exciting locations rather than the US or Europe. It is a book filled with first hand information by my family who made a successful transition from the US to Ecuador. "Retire in Ecuador" combines two sources, a book I wrote about retirement prior to leaving and a very successful blog while we were there. For the last few years, I wrote an extensive blog that covered almost every aspect of the process of making the transition from the US to the South American country of Ecuador. The blog, called "Our Ecuador," was posted over the course of three years while we lived in the beautiful city of Cuenca. It was written to help others with the difficult transition to living in a foreign country, a guide to help prospective expats learn from our experience and not have to reinvent the wheel. Interestingly, it had been suggested numerous times by readers of "Our Ecuador," that we turn the blog it into a book. But, blogs are difficult to read when researching for information because they are posted chronologically. You must visit the internet, click on a specific topic in order to bring up a page of desired information. For this new book, "Retire in Ecuador, the e-book format was selected so it could be more easily read at leisure. It then became apparent that the blog only covered the process of the adjustment to living in a foreign country. The blog didn't cover the emotional and creative process of coming to terms with retirement. I had previously written a hard cover book on retirement which discussed some of the pitfalls to avoid and how to make the rest of your life a roaring success . It was written to guide prospective retirees on the exciting journey into the last third of their lives. Page after page was filled with ideas and suggestions for someone about to retire, ways to accept the challenges of an abrupt change in their lives, and how to deal with the outcome. It seemed logical to combine the two publications, the blog and the book into one comprehensive eBook that is now called "Retire in Ecuador."
