Book Overview

When off-duty deputy Cooper Robinson happens upon a car balanced on the edge of a cliff, he does everything he can think of to distract the distraught driver from her perilous situation--and the attraction is instantaneous. The problem? She's his brother's new girlfriend.

When Katelyn Loveland's car veered off a winding Appalachian Mountain road, she thought she was done for. That is until Cooper Robinson, local sheriff's deputy, came to her rescue. And though Katie narrowly escaped her brush with death, she still fell. Hard.

She wasn't the only one. But soon Cooper learns that the woman he's more attracted to than any he's ever met is his brother's new girlfriend--and therefore unquestionably off limits. Yet, despite their best efforts, Cooper and Katie can't seem to avoid running into each other. Or ignore the undeniable chemistry between them.

As they grow closer, Katie shares secrets from her past and the real reason she moved to their small North Carolina town. She also wins over Cooper's welcoming and bighearted family. But they don't know that her feelings for Cooper keep growing--all while she's dating his brother. Soon the stakes of their emotional connection become higher than either could have imagined.

Katie stands to lose the first family she's ever had, and a scandal could doom Cooper's campaign for sheriff. Suddenly they find themselves on the edge of another precipice--and they're forced to make a decision that could change their lives forever.

A Search for Belonging

Kate Loveland has spent much of her life in foster care and she’s come to Riverbend Gap in hopes she can answer a question —why did her mother choose alcohol over her children? The hero, Cooper Robinson, also grapples with the terrible impact alcohol abuse has on a family, but unlike Kate, Cooper and his brother were adopted by a good man when their mother remarried. When the story starts Kate is in a near death experience and Cooper comes to her rescue. There’s an attraction, but Kate discovers her new boyfriend is actually Cooper’s brother. Tensions rise as Cooper and Kate are thrown together and they finally can’t deny their feelings any longer. Sometimes love arrives in the most unexpected ways, and while some people may see Cooper as a betrayer and Kate as a cheater, I thought the dynamics made the story more interesting. In the end Riverbend Gap is about family and belonging. The characters are relatable and likable. It’s a great start to a new series. I received a review copy from NetGalley, but these are my personal opinions about the story, and I have ordered the book.
