For the past three decades Robert Ludlum's bestselling novels have been enjoyed by hundreds of millions of readers worldwide and have set the standard against which all other thrillers are measured. His Covert-One series has been among his most beloved creations. Now comes the latest thrilling novel in the series: Robert Ludlum's The Moscow Vector At an international conference in Prague, Lt. Col. Jon Smith, an Army research doctor specializing in infectious diseases and secretly an agent attached to Covert-One, is contacted by a Russian colleague, Dr. Valentine Petrenko. Petrenko is concerned about a small cluster of mysterious deaths in Moscow and about the Russian government's refusal to release publicly any information or data on the outbreak. When the two meet, they are attacked by a group of mysterious men and Petrenko is killed. His notes and medical samples are lost, and Smith barely escapes with his life. At the same time, a series of government officials around the world are coming down with a mysterious, fast-acting virus with a 100% fatality rate. These deaths are somehow related to the increasing militarism from the new Russian government, headed by the autocratic and ambitious President Victor Dudarev. With few clues and precious little time, Smith and Covert-One must unravel this mysterious plot and find the mysterious figure who stands at the center of it all. .
Excellent listen even if it is predictable at the end

A well told tale even though the plot is nothing terribly new. Patrick Larkin does a fine job of weaving suspense and building on good characters for this tale. Erik Bergmann's narration is spectacular. I wish he would narrate all of the Ludlum books and more. Fine job.
Couldn't put it down

I loved reading the Ludlum's covert one novels and read all of them and was disappointed that there weren't more until I saw that this one by Larkin continued the series. It brought back all the adventure and spine tinkling situations that I had read in Ludlum's books. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am looking to read more of these. I'm hooked and love it.
A Great Medical Mystery

The Moscow Vector: A Covert One Novel is an excellent book: part detective story and part medical mystery, with lots of twists and turns. The characters are well-developed, and the ending is well-done. I enjoyed it immensely, and will continue to read Robert Ludlum's books.
A READING IMBUED WITH SUSPENSE, DANGER, AND DARK MACHINATIONS

Author Philip Larkin has done a commendable job of continuing Robert Ludlum's acclaimed Covert-One series. Ludlum, who died in 2001, was read by millions throughout the world and known for his heart-stopping suspense novels. While Larkin has come up with new ideas, amazing technological spins, he hasn't lost the original tone of Ludlum's work (see The Lazarus Vendetta). This time out the weapon is unbelievable - a poison that singles out victims by their DNA. Not only that but it can't be detected nor can it be cured. It's Lt. Col. Jon Smith's task to deal with this. Remember he's an Army research doctor and a secret agent for Covert-One. While at a conference in Prague he's contacted by a colleague, Dr. Valentin Petrenko, who's disturbed by sudden, unexplainable deaths in Moscow. Petrenko is further concerned by the fact that the Russian government is covering up the deaths. When Smith and Petrenko do meet concerning this matter, Petrenko is murdered and all of his information is gone. Russia is now led by an extremely ambitious president who seems bent on control of territories and people. With little to go on and the body count rising, including an attempt on the life of the President of the United States, Smith must stop the carnage. Voice performer Erik Bergmann gives an outstanding rendition of the story on both the Abridged and Unabridged Editions. His reading is imbued with sustained suspense, danger and dark machinations. An excellent listen. - Gail Cooke
