Drawn from the archives at CBS News, this work reconstructs the life and events of one of the most beloved American presidents. Filled with full-color photos, this beautiful little volume comes with a full-length DVD featuring footage of the Great Communicator.
This is one of the many books and magazines published at the time of Ronald Reagan's death in 2004 in an attempt to capitalize on the moment. It is, as the name implies, a remembrance of Reagan -- not a celebration of his life and achievements as president. What makes the book unique, perhaps, is that it comes from CBS News which, in my view, was an organization generally unfriendly to the President and his policies. What did I like best about the book? The opportunity to re-read many of Reagan's more important speeches and recapture, for a moment, the conservatism of his time (I have yet to play the DVD). What did I like the least? The book takes a more or less even handed approach to its subject, but fails to give Reagan much of the credit he deserves. Three stars for the treatment of the subject and five stars for the speeches and the DVD equals four stars.
