I have used the Camp book for Western Civilzation classes for years. Its excerpts are succinct and provide a realism to history that timelines and texts of events cannot provide. They allow for student exploration at the best level...from the words of the history makers and observers of the time. There are many such books on the market, but Camp's book is well suited to adult education and degree programs oriented toward working students. Camp's selection of readings can support any European history course, and provide an excellent basis for discussion and debate.
