As mentioned in my previous review, this is an author that I have read several of her books. Her stories never disappoint a reader. "Running from the Law" is a fine example of her talent as a writer; and you always seem to learn something about the judicial system as a layman.

Enjoyed listening to RUNNING FROM THE LAW by Lisa Scottoline . . . this is a fast-paced novel about Rita Morrone, alawyer who takes on the defense of a distinguished federal judgeaccused of sexual harassment . . . when the judge's young secretary is then found murdered, he becomes a prime suspect.There's a good plot here, as well as catchy dialogue . . . I liked the ending, too . . . and the fact that the story is set in Philadelphia added to my enjoyment.Karen Allen did the narration . . . she starred in one of myfavorite all-time films, STARMAN . . . however, her work here is only fair at best.

Very few contemporary detective novels are as amusing as this one was. I listened to it on a Recorded Books tape and couldn't wait to get home to hear what would happen next. If a silly whodunnit can be said to be "dear," this one made it. Scottoline is fresh and fun and I intend to read more. I must say I did read her next book (I think it was 'Rough Justice' but without the family shtick, it just wasn't as much fun.) Scottoline proves that a writer doesn't have to be Shakespeare to be worthwhile - I was quite happy during the time I was listening to her book, and making people feel good isn't such a bad thing. Thanks, Lisa!
Lively, funny lead character makes us suspend disbelief.

Though there are plot elements which leave some holes, it's worth it because of the humor infused throughout the novel. The supporting characters are real, even though some of them are a bit cuter than life. They are fun because we can see some traits and foibles we recognize. I enjoyed Rita's unspoken asides when she reacts to what is said to her. They are what we all think but dont's say out loud and gave me many laughs.Rita's ethics in and out of the courtroom are thought provoking.
