Rural Gumption is the story of a boy from the deep country in a farming community who dared to fight the odds of economic hardship and threatening illiteracy to become a respected academic, renowned scientist, motivational speaker and community advocate. The book chronicles the fascinating tale of a 'country boy' whose entry into school at age seven was plagued by a spotty attendance record which culminated in his total withdrawal from school at age eleven to become a 'child laborer' in his father's grocery store for the next four years.Although he lost all touch with things academic until age fifteen, he was determined to become a doctor.
