This is a good book with lots of action in it. It is the story of a gunner in the British Army and the curse his father got put on him in the 1840's. Worth your money.

This is not only one of the better books when it comes to historical accuracy but one that delivers an absolutely first class read. I have not come across a novel that captures the Afghanistan conflict so well ... or one that displays such excellent attention to detail. Anyone with a passion for military accuracy will find themselves applauding the fascinating detail and the obvious hours of research that the author has undertaken. If you are a fan of "Sharpe", you will be delighted at the arrival of Roger Carpener's "Peter Rutland" ... a character that you will undoubtedly enjoy following as much as Bernard Cornwell's hero for many years to come.

"This story completely absorbed me - I felt that I had actually been there watching the gunners at work. The dialogue is excellent. It was a great read." Quote from Admiral J. Stark, United States Navy
