A free wheeling New Yorker meets a wealthy man from South America. She marries him and moves to his hacienda. AFter 15 years of marriage, she discovers he is unfaithful and plots to rid him from a certain part of his body. His dying mother plays a central role in instigating her to the act which she performed years ago on her own husband. The crazy life of a woman living as an outsider clashes with the husband's family who are used to more traditional ways of living. It all leads to some interesting fun. This book has been out of print for awhile. I found it in my basement and decided to try it. I'm glad I did.
I loved the character Rubia in this story.

I bought this book on a whim one day at the bookstore. I thought it would be something I would just pass the time with, but the story of Rubia and her South American inlaws really kept me interested. She is living with a dying mother-in-law, a critical sister-in-law and a husband who has the idea of traditional macho adultery. I loved the humor in the book and the way Rubia intends to get revenge on her husband, with her mother-in-law's wisdom. It takes a look at miracles and madness in a family. I have looked for other books by this author and have found none. I do hope she has other works out there. I would definetely want to read more.
