Well written romantic Sci-Fi

Great story. A computer science grad student on a doomed expedition to scale a snow covered mountain teams up with the aliens to thwart her own government and loses her heart. Sounds cheesy and cliched but executed well enough to stand with any of the classics. Feels a bit like “Left Hand of Darkness”.
