A practical, authoritative book on an increasingly talked-about condition that affects more than 8 million American adults. Dr. Lenard Adler, director of the Adult ADHD Program at New York University School of Medicine, presents the latest findings on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. In Scattered Minds, he reveals hidden warning signs, debunks common misconceptions, and offers information on obtaining an accurate diagnosis, along with treatment options that include cutting-edge medications and proven coping strategies. Includes a screening quiz.
I bought this book but ended up returning it as it did not present me with much information that I didn't already know, and that which I didn't I could find on the internet. This is coming from someone who's read other books, researched academic studies, and had many conversations with AD/HD friends and specialists. However, I do think it would be a decent book for someone new to the subject. I especially like how it covers the neurology of the disorder, and that it has an up-to-date section on drugs used to help treat ADHD. I also very much appreciated that the book doesn't insult my dignity with cutesy cartoons and "you're OK!" fluff the way books on these kinds of disorders tend to do. The section dealing with self-diagnosis - what ADHD is and isn't - is great too. Would make a good read for those living and dealing with us! All in all this is a concise little book with up-to-date information on the basics of AD/HD.
Excellent resource

This book is an excellent resource for learning about adult ADD. It is an easy read, not too long, and gets to the point in giving information describing ADD, how to get a diagnosis, and gives a good overview of medications that can help.

I bought this book at the same time I bought Delivered From Distraction. I read this book first because of it's focus on adults and medications which is what concerned me most. After my insurance company took away my name brand prescription, I began to take the generic which proved disastrous on many levels. Since that time I have struggled to find a medication that would be right for me and OK with my insurance company. Scattered Minds; Hope and Help... has given me all the information there is right now. I loaned this book to my doctor and we are working things out. Like the book says, "Just keep trying".That is what I am doing, only now, with more help than I've ever had before, thanks to this book.
An Excellent Resource for Adult ADHD

As a co-owner of the ADDvisor, we hosted a teleconference featuring Dr. Lenard Adler in May. Dr. Adler was a very engaging speaker and provided many valuable insights into adult ADHD. Dr. Adler's new book, Scattered Minds, highlights both his knowledge about ADHD with writing that is both accessible and readable. This goes for professionals as well as the general public. In understandable terms, Dr. Adler describes the neurobiology of ADHD, the co-existing conditions that often accompany ADHD, medications and complimentary treatments and alternative treatments. 'Scattered Minds' can be used as a reference for questions as they come up or can be read cover-to-cover. Either way, your book shelf will be more valuable as you collect your resources about ADHD.

DR. Lenard Adler has written a comprehensive book on adult ADHD. Unlike other books on the subject DR. Adler does not give us a "pop" psychological view of this disorder. He debunks commonn misconceptions of ADHD and offers up to date information regarding medications used to treat this disorder. I recommend this book for those who have ADHD and want more than just a rah rah rah approach to their "Scattered Minds".
