Jeannette Montgomery Barron moved to in New York City in 1978 just as the art world scene was unfolding in the East Village and SoHo. She was compelled by the creative energy surrounding her to photograph this unique world and its oversized personalities. Her first portrait was of Francesco Clemente and soon after she photographed Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. In rapid succession, she photographed many important artists, writers, musicians, dealers, historians, and socialites of the era. This collection is a unique portrait of a cultural movement.
