A Colorful and Useful book

The entire series of Smithsonian books titled Science 101 is excellent. Each of them contains at least 250 color photographs, and they are written at a layman level. This one is on chemistry and contains topics on energy, materials, the chemistry of life, the chemistry of the environment, and also modern topics such as NMR, mapping the genome, fuel cells, and genetic engineering. It is an excellent reference, and would be useful to anyone wanting to brush up on their chemistry. It contains a long ready-reference section that is particularly useful.
