This series has extreme adventure. It starts when a teenage girl is forced to move to South Carolina to live with the father she never meet after her mom is killed by a drunk driver. He’s a marine biologist who lives on an island off the coast to be close to the institute where he works. She meets three teen boys whose families also live and work where her dad does. They bond over this and being high achievers in the private school their parents’ jobs pay for as a benefit. They are looked down on by some of their classmates for not being well to do. In this book their parents jobs are threatened by defunding the institute where they work so they would have to move away from each other so they hatch up the idea to search for a long lost supposed treasure of pirate Anne Bonnie who was an actual pirate in this area. This book combines history, real life locals, science, friendship, and adventure. You come to really get to know these kids and root for them. I would recommend to read the series in the order they were written in although each book stands on its own to see how their friendships and lives progress. I have read the series many times and wish more books would be written in the series.
