The fourth volume of the Selected Works covers the fifteen months from January 1927 to March 1928 during which Pant was leader of the Opposition in the U.P. Legislative Council. Notwithstanding the depleted strength of the Swaraj Party in the Council he was able, with the support of other groups, to make a considerable impact in putting across the nationalist point of view on a wide range of issues, and in his public speeches was a tireless and eloquent advocate of Hindu-Muslim unity.
