Seven of Seven

Contrary to the one reviewer that gave this trilogy a single star, I give Seven of Seven, FIVE STARS-- because I LOVED IT!!! Let's put aside the story and instead talk about why I bought it! I buy mangas based on "how they appear inside" and storywise later. Given, most titles nowadays aren't exactly well thought-of... which falls the same for its animated version(s). But SEVEN OF SEVEN is a fun read for anyone looking for humor, peer and heart pressures at school set-in-manga-situations and kawaii characters. Of course, it won't be as nice as others (i.e., "Stray Little Devil", "Yakitate! Japan", "Junk Force", "Hinadori Girl", etc.) but good enough for your money. My manga-buying motto is this: "If it's cute enough for me, then it deserves a home among the rest of my collection!" For this 3-book series, you won't regret it. Buy it! You'll love it as much as I did!!!

Nana, an "ordinary" elementary school girl receives a mysterious moon crystal from her Dad on a business trip to America (!), the moonlight shines upon the crystal -- and all heck breaks out when *seven* of Nana's more extreme personalities appear the morning after! While Seven of Seven is a formulaic "ordinary girl who tries confess her love to the shy boy (who seems to attract a bevy of other girls)", the stories are pure over-the-top situation comedy. The artist doesn't hesitate to add slapstick, fanservice (Japan sure has interesting elementary school...), and even a parody or two. But Seven of Seven is still a character-driven manga, even causing this jaded manga reader to admit to be moved at the ending of this three-volume series. I should mention that the artist is, contrary to another reviewer a *she*. This is obvious to anyone who reads the artist's notes and illustrations, sprinkled throughout the manga series. This "omake" is just as entertaining as the stories themselves. I should also note that the manga is quite different from the anime. Although I haven't seen the anime, the character designs are different, the manga has *much* more fanservice (because manga typically has an older audience than animation), and the additional Nanas don't hide themselves from their classmates at school. Personally, I'd recommend Seven of Seven to anyone 13+ (just like the book's rating suggests) who enjoys a straighforward comedy. There's nothing deep or profound about Seven of Seven -- just fun entertainment.

2 years ago, I saw the 1st volume of Seven of Seven one day at Kinokuniya and picked it up randomly and am so happy I did! Nana received a mysterious crystal from her father one night and when the moon shined upon it that same night, she woke up the next morning to 6 other Nanas who all exemplified different aspects of her personality. Her love at school is this boy Yuuichi and all the Nanas love him too and go to desperate measures to win him, pass classes and battle school foes. The series is completely lovable and wonderful because of the writing & the characters who you really come to adore. I was sad to see the series end. There is an anime version of it as well though it is different from the manga version. I'd recommend this book for 11+ year olds. It will definitely make you smile, laugh and just give you that good feeling inside. Happy reading!
