This book was ground-breaking when it first appeared in 1983. Seventeen years later, Heimel still matters. She matters because what she says is important, and it's also funny. She matters because when you read her you want to hang out with her - if you're a guy you want to date her and if you're a chick you want to cruise with her. I first read this book about ten years ago not long after I had graduated from college. My eye was caught by a rather provacative cover. I randomly picked a page and before having finished the first paragaph, was laughing out loud. I quickly chose another section of the book and likewise was again laughing out loud. Moreover, her understanding of my sex was uncanny. There was great pleasure knowing that a woman so unearringly had captured the masculine psyhe. For years afterward when I would find myslef in a difficult phase in a relationship, I would reread the book. This never failed to give me faith that is was possible for a man and woman to truly umderstand each other.
