Silvio Ramat is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Padova, has published an impressive number of critical studies and books or poetry. Reading the works of greats -- Keats, Blake, Shakespeare, one finds it easier to come to terms with one's own limitations as a poet. After all, these writers have said so much, if not all, and have said it so well. The rejection slips, the failures, are easier to handle. That is my feeling when I translate the work of Silvio Ramat, the Italian Poet. His great poems make it easier for me to accept my failures.
