What a revelation about the women of the New Testament--and about Christianity! We learn so much about this amazing religion, and in ways that directly relate to our lives--how it treats individuals. The author explains the differences between Mediterranean societies of that time and our own, and then shows what this means to the reader. For instance, he explains that a woman's only identity came from her male sponsor, and she was always named with her sponsor. Yet in the Gospels they are named in their own right as persons. "This fact alone shows Christianity made an initial, radical move toward giving women a separate status from that of men," says the author. He then proceeds to tell us all of the rich texture of the culture surrounding the events and how this enriches our own lives.What a rich and rewarding book this is. Thoroughly interesting--you will learn so many things you never knew before--and thoroughly enjoyable. Very encouraging to women and to men!
