My daughter loved this book when she was young. The simple rhymes, the colorful images of animals and the shortness of the story make it an ideal book to read before bedtime. I read it to her many times and she often giggled at the antics of the animals captured in the pictures.
Wonderful bedtime book!

Great sing-song rhymes, funny photos--what's not to like? Except that the book is out of print! I'm buying it used so we can take our copy back to the library where we got it! My almost 2 year-old asks for it by name! He "baa-baas" when he wants to read Sheep, Sheep, Sheep!
Great bedtime book for animal lovers

This book is a great book to go to sleep by. In a first person voice, Alda tells us that her mother suggested counting sleep as a way to go to sleep. Alda then imagines lots and lots of animals doing funny things, and shares with us photographs of what she is thinking about. After about half the book, she finally begins to see some sheep, and proceeds to count them. There's very little in this book that could potentially cause anxiety, let alone be scary for little ones. The book is a good short read before bedtime, with only about 300 words.
A Family Favorite

This book, and Pig, Horse, Cow, Don't Wake Me Now are the first books that come to mind when someone asks what our favorite children's books are. I love to read them, and my kids love to hear them over and over again!
A modern classic

It's a crime that this and its sister book (Pig Horse Cow, Don't Wake Me Now) are already out of print. They are beloved ragged treasures in our house. So many modern kids books have great art but crappy writing. Ms. Alda combines solid, crisp and colorful photos with playful, creative rhyming.
