"Frozen Music" was the first book I read by Cobbold and I have been checking bookstore shelves for a new book since 1999. It was a long wait for "Shooting Butterflies". But I wouldn't call Cobbold's books romances as the women are far to realistic to be included in that genre, so I simply stick to "novel". The main character, Grace Shield, is determined, prickly, passionate, complex, uncompromising, sometimes insensitive and not always loveable. It is a relief to read about a strong woman who is neither passive nor self-destructive and has a heart and actual motivations which seem real and understandable. There are lots of blow-by-blow reviews out there so I am not going to detail the storyline. Suffice to say that, in my opinion, as a fan of Barbara Kingsolver and Anne Tyler, Cobbold's latest book is well worth reading.I will say that the secondary storyline seemed unecessary and the ending was wrapped up a little too quickly for my taste (as in "Frozen Music") but I enjoyed the journey.
