Jim Arnosky takes you on an illustrated walk in the Vermont woods near his home. Except for hunting season, he goes out every day. He shows how he makes shadows. Talks of "bear nests" in beech nut trees. Tells how he starts a picture and gives ideas on completing them. If you have ever went out in the woods and tried to draw, you will respect his work. This same book can be found in the book Sketching Outdoors in All Seasons, if you can find that book. I have both.
