From the author of the critically acclaimed novels, Last Rights & Double Blind, (St. Martin's Press) comes a new story of crime, addictions, mental illness, love and family, set in the decaying urban center of an old manufacturing city. -"Dawson's vital characters and the ambience of his city and institutional scenes earn him respect as the author of both a superb mystery and a compelling novel." PUBLISHERS WEEKLY - "..a medical mindblower. Dawson proves a surehanded competitor of Robin Cook." PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This mystery is full of realistic, yet sympathetic, people living on the edge of respectability, much like the characters in an Elmore Leonard novel. The plot, like an episode of Seinfeld, is made up of disparate parts that come together in a surprising, delightful, and completely satisfying, conclusion. Having grown up in Hamilton, Ontario (the site of the story) many years ago, I can also attest to the veracity of the descriptions of yet another booming rust belt city now on the skids. In spite of that, one leaves this book feeling hopeful, and even happy, for the way in which Dawson resolves the various dilemmas.
An interesting novel full of surprises

Slide in all Direction What I really liked about this book is that it reminded me of the film Pulp Fiction. It had all sorts of interesting plot twists and would make a good movie. I noticed that the author has had rave reviews for his other books in Publisher's Weekly and was once compared to Robin Cook
