Smash-mouth football was just another day at the office during the heyday of professional football in the 1960s and 1970s. Elvin Bethea began his pro career with the Houston Oilers of the AFL in 1968... This description may be from another edition of this product.
FORMER HOUSTON OILER ELVIN BETHEA DOES A GREAT JOB TELLING US HIS STORY. HE HAS SOME AMUSING AND VERY INTERESTING STORIES ABOUT HIS CAREER. I AM A CLEVELAND BROWNS FANS AND I CAN REMEMBER HIS BATTLES WITH OFFENSIVE TACKLE DOUG DIEKEN IN THE TRENCHES. ELVIN WAS A GREAT PLAYER AND FINALLY WAS VOTED IN THE HALL OF FAME. TOWARDS THE END OF HIS BOOK, ELVIN RATES WHO HE THOUGHT WAS THE BEST AT OFFENSIVE POSITIONS THAT HE HAS FACED. I CONSIDERED HIS TELLING OF THE PLAYOFF GAMES AGAINST PITTSBURGH ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT OF THIS BOOK. (TOO BAD THE OILERS LOST TWICE TO THE STEELER DYNASTY) FOR ALL OILER AND FOOTBALL FANS.

smashmouth is a very easy read. tells the story of elvin bethea and the houston oilers from 1968-1983. i loved the oilers teams back in the late 70's who could not get past pittsburgh (ahh). really enjoyed the book especially the chapter on the great teams in the 70's and his trip to peru. the trip to peru really made all the guys who went look like normal people. highly recommend this book for any fan of the houston oilers or the NFL of the great decade of the 70's.
