I give this 3.5 stars. Not what I expected but was a good read. I’m still a little confused by what happened but will be picking up the second volume eventually.

This series is one I just picked up because it was cheap. Didn't realize the author also wrote Scott Pilgrim. I thought it was going to be bland and shallow, but it subverts expectations. The characters are fully colored, the character dynamics are a lot like Scott Pilgrim, in which friends seem to hate and detest each other, but they are ride or die. Not my favorite type, and it gets annoying, in dire situations where characters are discouraged or about to be killed and their friends call them all idiots, but the story holds an unexpected depth. The story shows mental illness, and the constant pressure for people with an online presence to appear as vapid and confident as they appear online. To never show a subversion to any expectations.
