Jabber Morris has had his heart set on playing soccer, but his family is pressuring him to play football, a sport his father played and loved before he died. A tough situation is made even more difficult when suspicion of stealing a wallet falls on Jabber's shoulders. Now he has to tell his uncle that he's decided to play soccer once and for all -- and convince his brother that he's not a thief. But will either of them accept what he says?
Do you like playing soccer? If so you might want to read Soccer Halfback by Matt Christopher. The book is about two brothers, Jabber and Pete. Jabber plays soccer and Pete plays football. Pete loses his wallet and Jabber finds it but Pete thinks he took it! This causes a minor problem. To read about other problems in this story, read this book.I liked this book because it is really exciting reading about the teams playing each other. On a scale of one to ten I would give this book a nine. I think Matt Christopher?s purpose for writing this book is to show that team work is special.

This is a book about a boy who is his first year of soccer and he turns out to be very good at it. The kids name is Jabber and he's in the 8th grade. A couple years ago Jabber's dad died in a car accident. His dad was a very well known football star. He was just started doing well in the pros when he gets hiis by a other car. HIs brother Pete is follwing in his dads footsteps as a budding star on his high school. So him and his mom think Jabber should also follow in their footsteps. As Pete is budding into a star Jabber is scoring the winning goal in soccer. Jabber and is best friend Moses and stork are the best on the soccer team. Well Jabber is the leading score on the team geting like 3 or 4 goals a game. Pete loses his wallet and a couple days later Jabber finds it and thers no more money in the wallet and so Jabber thinks that Pete thinks that Jabber took the money to buy his new soccer shoes buyt he didn't really take the money. Before the next soccer game he goes hangliding with Pete breaks his lag ther goes the football season for Pete So that gets Jabber thinking about swithching sports. I did give this book a 5 because its very well written

I think that the author, Matt Christopher, was really imaginative when he wrote this book. This book kept me in suspense. Jabber, {the main character}was very sad and unhappy at some points in the book, but he was very happy in the beginning and in the end of the book. I wanted to know which soccer team was going to win. This book is filled with fun and excitement! I would really recommend this book for third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. It was very hard for me to put Soccer Halfback down, and I don't think that you will be able to put this book down either!

I liked this book because it is full of action, even in the beginning of the book! He also describes the story well because he maps out the soccer game like your actually there. If you like soccer you'll like this book!I think the best part of this book is the beginning when he starts out with a soccer game and the main character is about to score. The only thing I disliked about this book was that he didn't focus much on the main character's life much other than soccer and family problems. Overall, I would say this is one of my favorite books!I think the best thing he did in this book was set the setting well so you think you are actually there in the book. He also lets you get a mental picture of what tha characers look like i real life. I think this is an outstanding book!
