Can we expect spiritual gifts to be operative in the church today as they were in the New Testament, or has God changed the way He relates to His church and through His church to the world? This is no... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Those who present a reasoned case from scripture that the spiritual gifts ceased after the church was established, never quite seem to cover all the factors. There is much to indicate that (apart from the unique role of the Apostle) the gifts and ministies are still relevant. Don Cosling's book "Sola Scriptura and the Revelatory Gifts" gives a comprehensive and fair assessment from God's word and shows that many of the standard arguments from cessationalists must be rebutted. But he also shows how the gifts are to be used in a responsible manner, only in accordance with the scriptural guidelines. Much of what goes on in today's churches in respect to gifts is less than edifying and this book is a welcome check to make sure we understand what constitutes mis-use - with the appropriate warnings, again from scripture. It is unusual to get such an unbiased book and I found it to be most helpful, especially as I believe that Reformed view of Sola Scriptura is something to be carefully guarded.
