This book took me by surprise. I read a lot of World War II non-fiction. This book is written well and had me forgetting it is fiction. Worth the time to read.
Should be 6 stars!

What a story! So many different plot lines and so many different view points. This multi-faceted look at the Battle of the Bulge shows lowly humanity at it's best fighting for ideals. The strange thing is that I believe this book would have been very similar if the Germans had won. Of all the novels I have read this one deserves a sequel. If nothing else, the statement on the back cover about the "honor of truth and the glory of lies" should be engraved on a large stone monument.
How Did This One Get Lost?

This is a very readable and great novel of real warriors vs all their enemies on all sides (theirs and ours) told via the historical stage of The Battle of the Bulge. While classic warrior vs remf, it is also a detailed look at the field soldier of that era, wonderful character studies rather than the usual WWI stereotype soldiers. From all I heard from my uncles and family friends who were "there"this rings all true, and hence it is a great read. You will continue to read when you should be sleeping to see what happens next. The writer is talented. His approach is unique. You have to scramble to be sure it is a novel...not someone's real life memory. Obviously, it is a panorama of real memories.
