Parent of special children with special needs who want to understand tests used to assess your child
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
I am a parent of an Autistic child who is tested on an annual basis by our Dept. Of Education. The testing or assessments are what had been driving or determining what services our son received from the district or state. We all know that the child's individual needs are what should drive the services. I discovered that tests that my child was being given were not measuring even in part the areas that he actually needed assistance with. I also discovered that school districts can teach to particular tests, thus, child does wonderfully and therefore we should cut his services back. Please make yourselves aware of what the tests strengths are and pitfalls. Understand your child's needs and by all means DO question the tests that the school uses. Unless you have this book to refer to you have no idea as to what the actual tests are measuring and if the tooks are even appropriate for your child or outdated etc. I strongly recommend this as a resource in any parents library who has special needs children in the public school system.
