Growing up in Zaire, currently known as the Democratic Republic of Congo, seven-foot two-inch Dikembe Mutombo did not expect to be an all-star basketball player. He attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C., on an academic scholarship before his height caught the attention of head basketball coach John Thompson. At Georgetown, Mutombo became a defensive star, and was drafted by the Denver Nuggets.
