In this engaging new biography of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Peggy Sklar introduces young adults to the fascinating and significant life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Painted in vivid detail are his early days, conversion, pilgrimage and founding of his new religious order. But the author takes this unique biography to a whole new level in focusing then, in the last chapter, on Ignatius' legacy of service and spirituality, as well as examples of activities that the Jesuits are involved in and concrete applications of Ignatian spirituality. This glimpse into Ignatius' life and spirituality will not only make this saint more accessible to young people, for whom he is an ideal role model, but to adults as well. +
Good preparation for your Catholic Faith Confirmation

I bought this book for my oldest son as a gift for his Catholic Confirmation. The book is written in a very simplistic style and the language is simple too. I wanted my son to have a good role model to follow as he starts to walk his path into manhood. St. Ignatius is a saint for all times. The story is very encouraging for today's youth looking for someone to look up to in these difficult times. I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking for a book with a strong message and with exceptional guidelines to live an honorary life. This saint story will change the way you look at life's struggles and how you handle them too! A must have!

Excellent Biography

This biography is quite well written; Ms. Sklar has thouroughly researched St. Ignatius (the bibliography is four pages long), and the resault has been this easily readible, as well as detailed, biography of the saint. My only complaint is that throughout the book Ms. Sklar makes references to Ignatius's spiritual exercises, but she does not actually describe them until the last chapter. But that is a minor issue. Overall, this book is well suited to anyone who wishes to learn more about this saint, no matter their age.
St. Ignatius Loyola for teens
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 23 years ago
It's difficult these days to find heroes for teens, who can inspire them not to give up and to follow their dreams. The life of Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order of Catholic priests, is such an inspiration.Author Sklar has managed to weave sixteenth century Spanish history and Ignatius's life together in such a way that both are easy to understand and vividly come alive to the reader.Although this book was written with young adults in mind, as a retired teacher, I find myself still thinking about this wonderful biographical nugget days later. Ignatius' life finds one asking questions like: Where do I find God in my life's journey? What does it mean not to give up? What does it mean to be faithful? What gifts do I have to share with the world today?Sklar's book has an inviting style that is crisp and doesn't get bogged down in non-essentials. You feel as though you are traveling with this undaunted saint through all of his setbacks and achievements. His zeal becomes contagious! It's an enjoyable biography which is sure to leave you with things to reflect on in your own life.Try it! You'll see.
