Through the underworld...Millennia ago, at the height of his power, the System Lord Ra decreed that any Goa'uld wishing to serve him must endure a great trial. Victory meant power and prestige, defeat... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a fan-tastic book! The characters (O'Neill, Carter, Jackson, Teal'c) are practically perfect, the storyline is unique and fun, and it's a real page turner. I can easily see this one as a great movie. The book takes place in season 3, following the episode "Deadman's Switch" where SG-1 encounters bountyhunter Aris Boch. Here, SG-1 is lead into a trap to endure the "Trial of Moons" designed by the Goa'uld Ra, in which they must travel across 12 planets (surviving the environments and other trials) to find the next stargate address and a spoken password before the timer runs out. The goal of the trial is to arrive at the Barque of Heaven, where Ra would appoint the survivors of the trial to positions of trust in his court. The party who wanted SG-1 lead into this trap shows up near the end to gloat and make sure they die. SG-1 has many clever escapes throughout the book, which is a fun treasure hunt adventure. There are a few references to TV episodes before the time where this book is set, but if you have a passing understanding of Stargate SG-1, then this book can stand very well on its own. Highly recommended!

This was delightful team based story. Rich with the mythology that made Stargate so unique, wonderful character moments and much angst! Lovely!
A page turner

After buying this book last week, I haven't been able to put it down since and this just reminds me why SG-1 happens to be my favorite show and series since this book shows just how much the members of the team really matter to each other and what these types of missions can do to strengthen those bonds. As a Stargate fan, I hope that they don't end the books series to quickly and dish out more books like this. Trust me, pick this one up, you won't be disappointed.
Family team work to a 'T'

I also got the advanced copy. My cover, however, adds Jack on the left and Daniel on the right with the eye in the middle. The author, Suzanne Wood really did a wonderful job in keeping with the characters interactions with each other. The classic lines that Jack always uses and his way of pushing his team on when he knows that it may be impossible. The 'No one gets left behind' is seen here. This book is such a page turner with what seems like endless adventure and suspense, because they have to go through 13 gates and it is the 'what is on the other side' that is so great! Keeps you wanting to read. I highly recommend this book for all SG1 fans!
Excellent Team story

I received an advance copy of the book, Stargate SG1: The Barque of Heaven and just recently finished reading it. I am very pleased to say that this story hearkens back to the good old team adventure days. There's something for everyone to do, some really nice team and character moments, with a bit more emphasis on Daniel & Jack. This book reminds me WHY SG1 is the team that I love; they aren't just a team, they are a family and in the story it shows. I wish I could go into further detail as there is just so much that I would like to discuss, but unfortunately that would require spoiling the story. Suffice to say that I recommend this story to anyone who is a team `gen' fan who enjoys the team embark on an (mis)adventure
