Thisexciting applications-oriented text features a meticulousstep-by-step presentation of statistical theories andformulas. An entire chapter on research design providesstudents with an overall context for all of the statisticaltheories and formulas which follow and each chapter opens byestablishing the specific research context for one of thestatistical analyses presented.
I bought this text for a Statistics class in a graduate program in Counseling. I was very nervous because I'm not at all figures and formulae oriented. I expected the worse but the book turned out to be very easy to follow and a great resource which allowed me to successfully complete the class. I intend to keep it as a reference as I continue in the program.
Lucid presentation of statistical concepts

After sifting through dozens of texts, I thought I would never find one that combined the conceptual clarity of Tal's "Reading Between the Numbers" with the procedural thoroughness found in a traditional introduction to statistics. Then I came across this book. It is exceptionally well-written, and the chapter problems include questions that require thoughtful written responses. The only noticeable omission is significance testing for proportions. But having to go elsewhere if needed for fill-in material is a small price to pay for this gem of a text.

This is a great book for those who are starting out in statistics. The author is able to explain quite difficult statistical concepts in a way the reader will be able to understand.
