MULTIPLY your chances of learning STATISTICS Trying to understand statistics but feeling a bit uncertain? Here's your solution. Statistics Demystifed, Second Edition helps you master this fundamental... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book basically succeeds in what it tries to offer: an introduction to statistics that would be understandable to someone without any prior training in statistics. It covers all the basic concepts, starting with the building blocks. However, if your goal is somewhat more ambitious and you want to either understand statistics such as is found in even the more elementary scientific articles or apply statistics in a useful fashion, then this book will not get you too far. This book should really be offered as an introduction to the next, intermediate step. Most of the statistics one encounters are more advanced than what is in this book.

I hadn't taken a Stastics course in over a decade, and was never much of a math whiz, but purchased this book to brush up on my statistics knowledge for my job. I found it extremely accessible and easy to use, without being too elementary. I actually had fun reading each chapter and completing the exercises and quizzes that accompanied each lesson. My only suggestion for improvement would be to include explanations along with the answer keys for each "quiz." This is a great choice for beginners.

Interesting and Practical Statistics

I wanted to refresh my knowledge of statistics, and this book helped a lot. It is a treasure trove of basic probability and statistics concepts. I like the fact that it discusses hurricane landfall prediction and event bunching, which have been all too relevant. It even discusses the difference between random and predestined digits. The author's cautions about causation assumptions, coincidence and extrapolation are excellent. Going way beyond Cliff Notes, it nevertheles is not overly challenging. The book demystifies realistic, practical problems, such as analizing the results of a quiz given to a large number of students. The practice exams are challenging but not excessively so. Consider buying this book.
Makes complicated stuff seem simple

As an accountant and investor, I have to work with statistics from time to time (too often). I've always had trouble with it, especially graphs and charts. This book is helping me understand things that have always confused me. There are plenty of graphs, clearly drawn and well explained. The first chapter, "Background Math," was especially helpful as a mini-refresher course. So far, I have found the material amazingly simple. I think everybody should read this book (and take all the tests) before attempting a hard-core statistics course. After I am done with this book, I plan to tackle "Advanced Statistics Demystified" and "Business Statistics Demystified."
